Teach me a magic trick

Teaching magic is a major part of my life. What a gift it is to share with the next generation. In this picture I am teaching a large group of cub scouts a series of amazing magic tricks. It is my point of view that you get here in this picture. Look at all their faces! Needless to say, they are totally captivated! Learning a magic trick can bring out a part of each student that even can surprise their own parents. How many times have I run into a magic students parent sometime after the magic class, only to hear about the magic shows they are performing for friends and family, and what a joy it is to see the kids perform. Magic is an excellent hobby, that takes very little investment to get started. In fact, common items like string, paperclips, newspaper, coins, and paper money are great props to begin learn magic. Of course, a deck of cards doesn't hurt. Card tricks are by far the most popular kind of magic, so you can imagine how many books there are that teach card magic! I heard it said once that there are more card trick book than books about modern medicine. Not sure how to fact check that, but you get the point! Morley's Magic Shop in Butler, NJ has card tricks, and more! If you want to learn a trick, or have a group that would like to have a magic class, contact Morley's Magic Theater to set up a time! All classes can be customized for the size and age range of the group! Start your magic hobby today!!!

Sharing the magic with you!

It's been quite a while since I've been our performing magic shows regularly. During the shut down 2020-2022, we transitioned the magic shop into the theater and made the shop a little smaller. But I was not out performing regularly for birthday parties and events the way I was 2019 and prior. Recently the phone has been ringing more and more asking me to bring a magic show to a birthday party at a person's home, or to schools for end of the year celebrations. It's been so refreshing to be out performing again!!! As much as I love being in our theater where we have the lights, costumes, music, curtains, big stage illusions, and Mazie and Juniper helping, there is something so pure about bring at a family party, and bringing a show that makes everyone so happy! This past weekend I had 5 shows, so you can bet that my heart was full of all the love I got from performing those shows. Two schools shows, a 10 yo birthday, and two puppet shows in our theater. It was an awesome weekend!

After the amazing weekend, I spent Monday putting away the puppet show and cleaning up the theater. Everything needed to look perfect for today because we had a new friend come to the shop and we ended up spending 5 hours filming some really fun videos and taking pictures of all kinds of new things we are working on.

If you have not a chance to visit the Magic Theater, put it on you must do list for things to do in North Jersey! It's a unique experience and we are so proud to be able to share the magic with you!!

Teaching a magic class

Teaching a magic class is one of my favorite things to do. I customize every class for the size and age range of the students. The experience is so exciting from the moment we start! I perform a simple magic trick and see their faces light up with wonder, then I spend a few minutes teaching about the magic trick and explain the secret. The kids are practically jumping out of their skins knowing that next I am going to give them each one of the magic tricks to practice with their friends. Every trick I perform and teach, the students take home to share with their friends and family! By the end, when the parents are coming in to pick up their students, there is a rush to perform a few of their favorite new magic tricks they have mastered. I'm sure there is magic talk all the way home, and then a grand magic show in the living room that evening for every student. That is how magic has carried on for so many years. It brings out the wonder in all of us!

Crazy enough to own a magic shop

When I started performing magic as a kid, I would visit every magic shop I could find, which was not many. But when it did happen that I found a magic shop, it was like a trip to the moon! I couldn't sleep the night before, and once we arrived, I'd never want to leave. At least not until every penny I had was spent. Lol! It was a dream come true to be in a magic shop with other magicians. I never would have believed you if you told me I would one day own a magic shop of my own. Yet, here I am 13 years a magic shop owner! Now I get the chance to demonstrate magic for people and share my love of the art with them. The best part is, I know what they purchase will go on to a magical life being shown to countless people, brining more happiness. That is the real gift of owning a magic shop, not making a sale, but know that joy it will bring people in the future!

Here is a picture of "The Wonderfun Shop: Magic Costumes and Entertainment." This was my wife and my first shop in Pompton Lakes, NJ. We opened in 2009 and ran the business there for many years. When we moved to Butler we renamed the business Morley's Magic Shop. We are happy to be Northern New Jersey's only true magic shop!

The most magical family in New Jersey

Picture
Being a magician for so many years means that I have performed my magic show in just about every kind of venue you can imagine. Sometimes there's very little space for a magician at a restaurant, but the show must go on. Sometimes, you feel like a star, performing a magic and illusion show with your wife and family on a huge stage at Sesame Place!

Becoming a magician

All through my teenage years, I read everything I could find about magic and magicians, and I collected magic tricks to build and improve my magic show. I was performing magic shows for kids parties and for nursing homes. I kept very busy for a kid living in a small Vermont town. At that time, I was known as G reat S cott. Here is my original business card that started it all!

A magical start

I saw my first magician when I was 7 years old at a Blue and Gold banquet in a small town in Vermont. I was already attracted to music and theater, but had never seen something like a magic show, where one person could control the entire performance and hold the audience in their hand. I wanted to do that! After reading every book in my town library, the librarian asked me if I'd like to perform a show for the story time children. I accepted my first gig...and so it began.
